This is a rose from a large bush on the side of my house, taken with my 50mm 1.4 with a 25mm macro tube (no AF) and my LED lens-mounted light. As you can see that even with an external light in sunlight, the DOF is still very tricky and thus, so is the trick of finding a focus point.
This was my first test of using the LED light in conjunction with one extension tube on my 50mm lens. I'm crouched over it as it's sitting on my treadmill.
